Begich Speaks about His Work on Rural Broadband in D.C.

During a recent episode of The Broadband Beat with Shirley Bloomfield, hosted by NTCA, Senator Mark Begich (D-Alaska) talked about how important broadband is to rural parts of Alaska. Rural broadband connectivity is crucial for healthcare, education, commerce, and for social reasons, said Begich. “If you don’t have high-speed broadband connectivity in your community, you’re going to be left out.”  He went on to identify the need for more capacity given its current uses in telemedicine and distance learning, and the amount of potential for future applications. WATCH: Alaska's "Talk Story Write Story" Experience

Contributor: Katie Paglini In July of 2013, several senior high school students from rural parts of Alaska were invited to attend a college scholarship writing workshop as part of the Upward Bound Program in Fairbanks, AK. The workshop, entitled Talk Story Write Story, was led by Tad Bartimus Wariner and Dean Wariner of Hana, Hawaii, and partially funded by the Association of Alaska School Boards and Connect Alaska. Two teachers were also involved in the workshop, Megan Shaw from Bethel, and Jeanne Campbell from Chevak.
