Alaska Broadband Task Force Releases Final State Broadband Plan

By CAK Staff

This month, the Alaska Broadband Task Force released its final plan for broadband in the state. First released as a draft in August 2013, the plan makes significant recommendations on expanding the digital economy in Alaska.

Updates to the report include recommendations about expanding broadband in rural Alaska and the Arctic. Specifically, the Task Force recommended that the state “recognize the importance of Arctic telecommunications development and promote sustainable deployment to the region.” Final overall recommendations can be found here.

The Alaska Broadband Task Force was formed in 2011 by the Alaska Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development Commissioner Susan Bell to study the state’s current broadband landscape and come up with a plan to expand Alaska’s broadband for the state’s 21st century needs.
